    It may be a small "woody" plant (compact nandina, shrub rose, dwarf conifer of some sort) or an evergreen perennial such as artemisia, liriope or dwarf daylily. Any small landscape plant - often less expensive than a short-term flowering plant - will do. (The Clarion-Ledger)

    Since I first wrote an article back in 2002 on critters, I have added raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, sweet corn and small conifer seedlings to this list. They tend not to eat lilac, juniper, spruce, spirea, barberry, potentilla, peony and daffodil. (Lindstrom Chisago County Press, MN)
