    Dr Grey and a PhD student, Eliana Marino, found that a compound, already tested in humans with other auto-immune diseases such as lupus and Sjogren's syndrome, can block the cells that trigger type 1 diabetes, stopping the illness from ever developing. In their research, published in the international journal Diabetes, mice that had a 70 to 90 per cent chance of developing the disease were injected with the compound over six weeks.
