    A larger study of abuse reports in Missouri found that children living in households with unrelated adults are nearly 50 times as likely to die of inflicted injuries as children living with two birth parents. Alan Abramowitz, the interim head of the Department of Children and Families in Palm Beach County, said the risk factors identified in the report line up perfectly with the criteria that investigators use when deciding whether a child can remain safely at home.
