News and Articles on American Morality

'Angels' of grace, depth, and effect  Jan 24, 2008
Most of all, I'm grateful that a local company is taking on this masterful, moving examination of American morality, politics, love, and public life, as illuminated by the darkness of the AIDS crisis in the 1980s. In its exploration of the intersecting lives of its characters - the ailing Prior Walter and his lover, Louis; the young Mormons Joe and Harper Pitt; and Joe's mentor, the closeted conservative lawyer Roy Cohn - this work has a fury and deep humanity that feel as essential as ever. We always have our moral eye on such unfortunate countries and can be depended upon to introduce American morality on short notice. If this occurs and a few hundred thousand natives are killed, this is simply collateral damage that sometimes happens during our moral crusades. (San Francisco Chronicle -- Opinion)

COLUMN: Senator Craig's hypocrisy shows it's time for conservative politicians to stop playing the sex police  Sep 6, 2007
Republicans have long regarded themselves as the guardians of American morality, pushing self-righteous and impractical policies, like abstinence-only sex education, rooted in an imagined past where sex occurred only in awkward and infrequent encounters between men and their wives. Yet time and again, Republicans have shown themselves unable to meet their own moral commands, succumbing to the same urges and instincts that animate every warm-blooded human being. (U-Wire.com)

    'Moral victory'  Jan 31, 2007
The attitude of the Bush administration could be summed up as, "We are too big and too powerful to make any mistakes." This kind of irresponsible behavior by the administration is making us lose our basic American morality and sense of justice, and causing irreparable damage to our credibility abroad. Moral victory is essential to win the hearts and minds of our partners in the war on terror. (Fresno Bee -- Opinion)
