SCROOGE BIDEN: ECONOMY IN DANGER OF 'ABSOLUTELY TANKING'  Dec 20, 2008
The second step would be to just create enough FIAT money to pay all the debt and third authorizing the Central Banks of the entire world to make an accounting adjustment crediting the debtor and paying the debt-holder ... To restate what I am REALLY ADVOCATING I am advocating the Federal Reserve be told to create NEW FIAT MONEY in an amount equal to ALL debt now held in America and using it to zero out ALL the debt. Wealthy investors in the fiat money markets created by the Rothschilds backed the wrong side based on bogus information and the Rothschilds were able to gain full control of both Frances and Englands central banks when they bought stock for pennies on the dollar due to the phoney information. The Rothschilds are doing the same thing today buying things like Lehman brothers for pennies on the dollar or leaving the tax payers with bad loans they create and money they create out of thin air-that... Dr Ms way to sustain brand  Dec 9, 2008
The Bretton Woods agreement allowed the (monetary) system to be pegged to gold, and then it went off the system and on fiat money. This then gave the banks the freedom to literally print their own money. (The Star Online, Malaysia -- Business)

Return to the Constitution  Dec 7, 2008
Every penny of individual income tax we pay goes towards interest on the fiat money the un-Federal Reserve prints out of thin air and lends to Congress to pay for these socialistic programs and other boondoggles. Congress was delegated the power to coin money and doesn t have the authority to redelegate such power, especially not to a private organization. (Logan Herald Journal, UT)

    When inflation comes a-knockin'  Nov 20, 2008
Thus, with a staggering, unbelievable amount of money being created, these and many more deflationary problems will soon be just a quaint memory as voluntary fiscal and monetary restraints around the world are being thrown wholesale into the dumpster even as we speak, and humongous "economic stimulus plans" financed by massive increases in fiat money are being trotted out across the globe, all meaning that inflation will rise and rise. As if to prove me right, the article went on to note that... (Asia Times Online)

Clock runs on borrowed time  Nov 14, 2008
So, welcome to the hell of fiat money, and to the inner hell of fractional reserve banking. Now we get to the part where the history books will say, "So incredibly much money and credit was created by the horrible Federal Reserve and the disastrous fiscal policies of Congress, that this marks the beginning of the hyperinflation and the ultimate collapse of America." Market-place gods had it right  Oct 8, 2008
It is true that stricter versions of the heading can be relaxed if we are using a fiat money, since monetary policy can accommodate moderate deficits more easily than a gold standard. However the above is the bare minimum, which the United States is about to flout, both in the short term through $1 trillion deficits from recession and bailouts and in the long term through the actuarial problems in social security and Medicare. Through its control of the nation's fiat money the Fed can increase or decrease the nation's money supply and act as the "lender of last resort" by loaning money to failing banks to stop bank failures and financial panics. Fiat money, in extremis, is accepted by nobody, Alan Greenspan, the former chairman of the US Federal Reserve, told lawmakers in Washington almost a decade ago ... The in extremis scenario was for years only a possibility in the mind of die-hard gold bugs, but the financial crisis is leading regular investors from the ultra-rich to middle-class savers to believe that the environment in which Mr Greenspan said fiat money would be worthless is now around the corner. Gold slides as fears subside  Sep 20, 2008
Gold often rises in times of financial crisis and heightened geopolitical tensions because the metal's intrinsic value is not tied to fiat money. Bullion hit hard as investors switched funds back to rebounding equity markets as US stocks rose more than 3%, and shares in Europe and Asia also gained sharply. (Sydney Morning Herald -- Business)

Bottom ofthe class  Sep 18, 2008
This little know-nothing snot thinks it's "daft" to prefer the non-inflationary security of a stable money supply (as with gold) instead of the guaranteed-ruination of a fiat money supply, especially one where that money is created out of un-payable debt in an out-of-control fractional reserve banking system. Spooky stats from the US Mint  Sep 17, 2008
Sure enough, he immediately said, "There are an infinite number of possible answers. Maybe the Treasury does not want to part with its remaining gold at these current low prices. Maybe the Treasury does not want Americans to exchange their fiat dollars for the safe haven of gold as the central banking fiat money scheme implodes. Maybe the Mint doesn't have any gold because the 2,783,218.656 ounces were loaned out. Maybe the Treasury doesn't have any gold either. Of course, no one really knows... (Asia Times Online)

Gold falls as safe-haven demand fades  Sep 16, 2008
Though gold normally gains on safe-haven buying during financial crises because its value is not tied to fiat money, portfolio managers were keen to shed positions in commodities after Lehman's bankruptcy, the takeover of Merrill Lynch, and fears major insurer American International Group needed to raise additional capital. In afternoon trade, spot gold was down 1. (Sydney Morning Herald -- Business)

See no room for Freddie, Fannie-like cos: Greenspan  Sep 11, 2008
Greenspan: First of all one should remember that we have a fiat money system. This essentially means that at a minimum, government must intervene for the process of maintaining money supply because when we went off the Gold Standard, which was an automatic mechanism, we essentially created the discretionary money system. The assets of penultimate fools  Sep 9, 2008
He asks me, "Why?" Because that's the trouble with fiat money and the excesses of money and credit that are thus possible to produce; once you get started with that crap, you can't quit, as inflation in prices just keeps going up and up (necessitating the creation of more money and credit to pay the higher prices), and all the money "invested" during the boom in stocks, bonds and houses is lost unless more money is created for another crop of "greater fools" to buy the assets from the... Silver stats to salivate over  Sep 4, 2008
No, the point is that you would be buying gold, silver and oil if you had any smarts, or even a vague, passing familiarity with the entire historical record of what happens when a government is so corrupt that it deficit-spends, and especially when it compounds its folly by paying for it with the creation of a fiat money. And it is doubly especially about how you would be buying gold, silver and oil when the state and local governments do the same borrow-and-spend-o-holic thing, and triply... (Asia Times Online)

Central banks need a Basel lll  Aug 29, 2008
Central banks were created to manage liquidity with fiat money, to preserve the value of their currency and to safeguard the stability of their national financial system ... Under fiat money, when the central bank pegs the loan rate of interest below the marginal rate of profit, it sets in motion a cumulative expansion in the demand for and supply of loans, currency issue, and the price level ... Too much for a fiat currency  Jun 24, 2008
And the worst of all is when a government creates too much fiat money, like now, and now all that money that has been created around the world has to be spent on something, driving up the price, and the people who sold that something made a profit, and then they will spend the money on something else, driving up the price of that, too ... Time to Put Investment Banking Back in Its Box  Jun 5, 2008
Banking in a fractional reserve, fiat money world is inherently a non-market exercise in legalized deceit,'' says Corrigan at Diapason. The unfettered finance which it allows is all too prone to wreak a devil-take-the-hindmost havoc once it becomes unanchored from reality and succumbs instead to the intense, positive feedbacks which operate within it on both a systematic and a psychological level. Subprimed to loselots of money  Dec 12, 2007
It's from looking at all of the rest of human history, peopled as it was by the same sort of lying, corrupt, stupid, ignorant, thieving scum that we have today, and we look at all the governments thus composed that wanted to spend, spend, spend money (all of them), and we look at all the schemes they cooked up to get the money to spend, spend, spend, and we look especially carefully at those times when the government decided, "Hey! This 'gold and silver as money' crap, holding our money supply... (Asia Times Online)

You Can Blame Herman Hollerith for the Sub Prime Meltdown  Nov 27, 2007
After all, that is its job, to control the nation s money supply by increasing or decreasing the amount of fiat money in circulation and to set the interest rates that the banking system charges lenders. Turning over this most important of the free market s products -- the creation and supply of money -- to the government-controlled monopoly of the Federal Reserve Board back in 1913 may yet turn out to be the most profoundly disastrous policy decision that the Congress has ever made in a long... Mitch C wrote on Nov 17, 2007 10:29 AM:" Wow, there are a lot of uninformed readers here! Ron Paul is for *eventually* basing our money on something other than paper, and he has said so very recently. He entered politics for the very reason that the Gov began printing fiat money, has studied the subject constantly, and is now the foremost authority in Congress on this subject. If I'm not mistaken, he voted for the fence, but the more reasonable solutions he will offer is to bring our troops home... (Sioux City Journal, IO)

New Column: You people are cheap, cheap, cheap  Nov 12, 2007
", "biggest savings" etc. We have been conditioned to think that we are foolish if we don't hunt for the best "bargains" and own the flashiest toys. Next, the perceived entitlement of annual raises for just putting in time guaratees inflation. Add to this mix, fiat money and corporations being overly focused on only current quarter's profits and you have a recipe for a lazy and cheap society that incurs thousand of dollars of credit card debt to mollify their desires to have the latest techno... PART 1: A structural link  Oct 13, 2007
A central aim of mercantilism was to ensure that a nation's exports remained higher in value than its imports, the surplus in that era being paid only in specie money (gold-backed as opposed to fiat money). This trade surplus in gold permitted the surplus country, such as England, to invest in more factories at home to manufacture more for export, thus bringing home more gold. (Asia Times Online)
