November 2009 Geology and GSA Today highlights  Oct 31, 2009
Besides forming parts of important hydrocarbon and water reservoirs, these grains have provided valuable insights into paleoceanography, oceanic and atmospheric chemistry, and the conditions in which carbonate sediments were deposited. Although ooids occur throughout geologic time and are in great abundance in some areas today, it remained a puzzle as to why they had not been recognized in modern sediments on any atoll in the Pacific Ocean. Ozone, nitrogen change the way rising CO2 affects Earth's water  Jul 10, 2009
The researchers concluded that models of climate change may be underestimating how much water is likely to run off the land and back into the sea as atmospheric chemistry changes. I like your post, but I have to say (from a meteorologist's perspective) that there is more to the story than atmospheric chemistry.
