    Henry and Johnston named Citizens of the Year  Nov 19, 2009

    Somerville Public Schools, SPED PAC to host Basic Right Workshop  Nov 11, 2009
    The Somerville SPED PAC and the Somerville Public Schools will host the Basic Right Workshop on Monday, Nov. 23, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Capuano Center at 150 Glen St. Ginny Brennan from the Federation for Children with Special Needs will present the workshop. The workshop provides families with an introduction to their rights and responsibilities under the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA), Mass. (Somerville Journal, MA)

    SpedPAC to hold event  Oct 21, 2009
    Maynard Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SpEdPAC) and Sudbury Special Education Advisory Council (SSEAC) will host an educational workshop with Melinda Parry from the Federation for Children with Special Needs on Oct. 27, at the Maynard High School Library.     Standing O for Inclusion Award winners  May 9, 2009

    Restraining of students questioned  May 4, 2009
    "This has become an increasing problem in schools, particularly as schools cut back on teachers," said Richard Robison, executive director Federation for Children with Special Needs, an advocacy group based in Boston. "Teachers get frustrated and can't deal with everything. What happens is teachers revert to using restraints illegally or inappropriately.". (Boston Globe)

    The Federation for Children with Special Needs is pleased announce that Suzanne Russell has been awarded their Community Partnership award for her outstanding work as an inclusive general education teacher.     Yelling Doesnt Work Workshop  Feb 21, 2009
    Instead of yelling at children, Rebecca Goniwich of the Federation for Children with Special Needs, will present alternate methods parents can use to get their children to comply. Goniwich will provide insight into why a child misbehaves and show how parents can use a positive behavior support plan to help change their child s behavior at home and in the classroom.
