The Central Christian College of the Bible Saints men s basketball team of Moberly received the top seed in the Division II tournament, which takes place March 5-8 in Bethany, Okla. The CCCB men (13-18) under first year head coach Jack Defreitas will begin play in the tournament on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. against the winner of Wednesday's Providence College/Free Will Baptist Bible College game. Nearly 50 interested individuals gathered at the Little Dixie Library in Moberly Tuesday evening to commemorate Black History Month. An informal meeting was facilitated by Beverly Holder of the Little Dixie Library. She invited everyone to share their thoughts on topics such as Racisms, and disrespect of youth today, bussing and education. Participants filled out a comment sheet when they arrived and these were the topics discussed. It was a heartfelt evening of sharing feelings and ideas. ’Know your roots. Kids need to be rooted in the families.’ ’There are not a lot of black teachers.’ ’The disrespect of youth today is not racial.’ ’After WWII the Japanese received an apology from the United States. This needs to be done for African Americans and Native Americans.’ ’Black History needs to be taught more in schools.’ All of these thoughts and more were discussed. Mehaffy came to Moberly six years ago to serve as chief operating officer for fundraising at Central Christian College of the Bible and has served in the same position in the past year with Llopment. After two days on the job as economic development director, Mehaffy received word of the employee reduction to take place at DURA. Two highlights of the day were keynote speaker Susie Cason, director of the Adult Literacy Program at the Moberly Area Community College, and Exalted Praise (pictured), a gospel group from Central Christian College of the Bible in Moberly, whose harmonies helped enhance God's Word through song as a part of the J.
