    LOS ANGELES A major runway at Los Angeles International Airport was ready for its debut Monday after eight months of construction aimed at improving safety at the world's fifth busiest passenger airport. The southernmost runway, one of a parallel pair of runways on the airport's south side, was closed in July and rebuilt 55 feet away to create room for a new center aisle between the two.     A former football player was charged with murder for allegedly throwing a neighbor to his death from a third-floor balcony at their apartment building in suburban Chicago. Hubert D. Thompson, 28, who played for Michigan State, surrendered peacefully late Friday after holing up in his apartment for nearly seven hours while police SWAT teams surrounded the building.     Briefing Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Sekondi on Thursday, Police Superintendent Adusa Poku and MTTU Commander, said the suspect, Issifu Mohammed 36, driving a Kia Sportage at 1930 hours on December 23, knocked Reverend Francis Namoah 37, Minister in-charge of Essipong Rhema Church at Mapees Junction near Skyy Power FM station at Fijai.
