As we walked into the late afternoon, the sun's light on the desert vegetation created myriad colors: black in the shadows, the brilliant green of the creosote, the yellow of the desert flowers and the dark contrast of the Santa Catalina Mountains behind us. We live in a desert vegetation isn't needed here and cost to much to upkeep. Why can't we simply donate time or pay the prisoners or prison to clean these places up and take out the trees and grass in parking lots and make it a desert (dirt) landscape. (El Centro Imperial Valley Press, CA)
