Willpower wrote on Feb 8, 2008 9:46 AM:" The earth's climate varies over long periods of time because the earth's orbital characteristics vary over long periods of time. Seasonality comes and goes in a regular and well studied pattern because the earth's declination changes much as a spinning top varies it's angle of spin. The earth's orbit changes from more circular to more elliptical over time as well. The time of year, which is to say season, in which aphelion and perihelion occur also... Delhi has a date with Winter Solstice Dec 25, 2007
Besides measuring the declination of the Sun at Jai Prakas and Misra Yantra, students also measured horizontal and vertical angles of celestial bodies like the Sun and Mars at Ram Yantra. Nehru Planetarium Director N. Rathnasree conducted classes on the scientific facts about Winter Solstice and relevance of masonic instruments to budding astronomers throughout the day. (Hindu)

Dawn Launch Rescheduled To September; Phoenix To Launch In August Jul 8, 2007
It would be very faint, perhaps no more than a speck amidst a sea of stars in the constellation Cetus near right ascension 0 hours 52 minutes and declination -18 degrees ... The dependence upon the day in the launch period is more complex, but in general, if the launch takes place on a later day, the location will shift to slightly higher right ascension and higher declination. Observing the earth May 23, 2006
" The observatory gradually evolved from analog to digital equipment. Today, a Declination Inclination Magnetometer is used to take baseline readings. It's a nonmagnetic theodolite, which measures vertical and horizontal angles of the magnetic field. Data from that and other instruments are fed into a main recording room in a building at the rear of the property. A wireless relay system sends that to the administration building, but that link is being converted to faster and more efficient... (Fredericksburg Free Lance-Star, VA)
