Each story, for children of any age, is based on one or more prints by the famed lithographers, Currier and Ives who portrayed American scenes during the 1800s. Most of the prints came from a book that Rosien received from his Uncle Jim when he was 11 years old. (Montana Standard, MT)

Mound, Roselawn cemetery walk reveals stories, customs of yesteryear  Nov 3, 2008
Dressed in a top hat, a wool greatcoat, vest and cravat, Davis looked like a character from a Currier and Ives illustration. He was talking about Charles H. Morton, the son of the founder of Charleston. (Mattoon Journal-Gazette, IL)

    54th Massachusetts remembered  Jul 22, 2008
Shortly after the battle, the printing firm of Currier and Ives commemorated the 54th s charge, portraying black soldiers carrying the Union flag over the fort s ramparts and into the Confederate phalanx. One of the few surviving copies of this print is now at the Gilder Lehrman Collection in New York City. (Orangeburg Times and Democrat, SC)

    Manufacturing Wallpaper  Jun 11, 2008
The scenes were taken from a set of Currier and Ives prints. The panoramic scenes showed a general view of New York City and its bay seen from atop Weehawken, the fortifications and parade ground at West Point, Niagara Falls covered in mist, Natural Bridge in Virginia and a view of Boston and its harbor. A Path to Purpose  Jun 6, 2008
John F. Kennedy's ringing call to unselfish service sounds quaint today: "Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country." Ronald Reagan's description of "the American sound" as "hopeful, big-hearted, idealistic, daring, decent and fair" sounds like something from Currier and Ives, too. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia describes how America is unique in the way Americans characterize themselves in relation to the Constitution. (Townhall.com)

Fiction review: Prescient 'World Made by Hand'  May 7, 2008
Similarly, there is an overemphasis on the rustic good life, with one chapter describing a feasting and fiddle-playing soiree, the hokeyness of which rivals anything conceived by Currier and Ives. There are two unforgettable set pieces, however, that galvanize this book. (San Francisco Chronicle)

One of our policeman (woman) was shot, however that was in another county. The crime is different around here if you haven't noticed. It consists of drugged out meth users that would just as soon... 'How would Santa know where to find me?'  Dec 25, 2007
We ran to the wall between the houses --and there was a memorable Christmas scene, though not one out of Currier and Ives. The young man and his parents, along with the intended bride in her best sari, were watching with incredulity as the motorbike spluttered away on its stand, bubbles streaming out of its cylinders -- and every other orifice. (Ottawa Citizen)

Drive to arrive safe and sound  Dec 22, 2007
Over the river and through the woods may be the Currier and Ives vision for your holiday plans, but you ll fare better and get to your holiday destination and back safely if you do a little less humming, talking on the cell phone and whatnot and keep your eyes on the road. Cut down on the laced eggnog, too. (Racine Journal Times, WI)

MARTY RUSSELL: Dashing through the dust, in a 500-horse convertible  Dec 12, 2007
We grew up believing Christmas should look like one of those old Currier and Ives Christmas cards or a classic holiday movie or the TV ads urging us to spend, spend, spend for the holidays. All of them usually feature a traditional scene that includes snow, people bundled up in heavy coats and scarfs, and sleigh rides and such. (Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal)

BUSIEST TIME OF THE YEAR: No hunting, no fishing for Christmas tree farm owner  Dec 12, 2007
While all the snow that s fallen may help the tree lot look like a Currier and Ives postcard, it means more work for Hartung, who has to plow paths through the lot. So no hunting, no ice fishing and mostly no television though they do watch the Green Bay Packers because they have a small window of time to sell. (La Crosse Tribune, WI)

Create a Beautiful Holiday Mantel  Oct 30, 2007
The classic scene of red Christmas stockings lining the fireplace mantel brings Currier and Ives images to mind. Why not try a twist on the classic this year by making or purchasing a new set of glittery gold matching stockings for each member of the family. (Suite101.com)

Take a stroll down Kansas City St.  Oct 30, 2007
Walking there on a recent crisp fall evening, it felt a little like stepping into a Currier and Ives print while looking toward a more vibrant future for downtown Rapid City. Surface improvement projects like this one help keep the downtown core of any city viable and the Rapid City Council is wise to fund them. (Rapid City Journal, SD)

Longtime family farm changes hands  Sep 24, 2007
" As a bonus, the two couples bonded immediately, and consider each other family. This is evident in Lagace's plans to honor her predecessors. She will name the driveway Oktavec Drive at her grand opening. The old homestead, however, still had a few surprises in store for the older couple. Upon moving, they were delighted to find a treasure trove of antiques in the attic, among them a Currier and Ives sleigh, the wringer of a washing machine, old milk bottles, old books and photos,... Still lifes with a modern twist  Jun 14, 2007
"Currier, Stubbs, Audubon" has brilliant tropical fish (courtesy of 18th-century illustrator George Stubbs) and delicately patterned birds (Audubon) filling the foreground, while a snowy scene from Currier and Ives makes a romantic background, with a VW Beetle thrown in to bring us up to the 21st century. It's a hodgepodge that feels at once festive and foreboding. (Boston Globe -- Living)
