News and Articles on Charles Burchfield

    Richard Pousette-Dart's abstract affinities  Aug 21, 2007
His affinities range through a host of texture-mad stipplers, from Charles Burchfield to Alfred Jensen and Jess to Ralph Humphrey and Robert Irwin. Pousette-Dart's art exemplifies the exultation of material that courses through much American painting. (International Herald Tribune)

CHANGING THE LANDSCAPE  Feb 25, 2007
Pfahl's name may not trip off the tongue of the casual Buffalo art follower, as does Charles Burchfield or Milton Rogovin, but he is one of Buffalo's most lauded artists. His work is collected and exhibited worldwide. (Buffalo News -- Entertainment)

Taking on elements of Picasso  Feb 3, 2007
The project, according to the gallery's news release, has something to do with a series of psychological apperception tests that involved the work of early 20th century painter Charles Burchfield, which presumably explains the one otherwise anomalous addition: a slightly smaller painting composed of Burchfield-like forms. Storm creates opportunity for expression of chain saw art  Jan 7, 2007
Other potential subjects include President Grover Cleveland, Father Nelson Baker, Charles Burchfield and Jim Kelly, as well as violins representing the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, a lighthouse for the waterfront, Harold Arlen and a Seneca Indian. Forton-Barnes helped raise $60,000 for the renovation of Soldiers Circle in 1999 and was heartbroken to find the storm had extensively damaged the trees and ground cover. (Buffalo News)
